Prepare for Eternity

It’s really easy to get caught up in our daily routines – going to work/school, running errands, paying your bills – that we forget what life on Earth is about. Life here is only practice for the lifetime that really matters; it’s preparation for the responsibilities and closer connection we’ll have with God in Heaven.

Your Earthly life is measured by how you spend your time; how you handle your relationships (including your relationship with Jesus); how you spend your money; your attitude towards things/people/challenges; and your faith. Do you build your skills/talents/character/relationships and cultivate them wisely? Or, are you wasteful, selfish, or distracted by Earthly pleasures or challenges? We are all stewards of what God has given us. These include our lives, bodies, intelligence, talents, money, and relationships. For this reason, He expects us to be mindful of how we deal with these things. When we take care of our bodies, develop and use our talents, nurture our relationships, and bless others, we glorify God and cause others to glorify Him too. This is how He can tell whether we can be trusted with more, because we are so careful and intentional with the things and people to which we are currently assigned.

If you are a Christian, Earth is not your home. Your current house is not your permanent residence. Your body is not the essence of who you are and will fade away. We must think long-term and reflect on how we are living today, knowing it will affect our lives after we die. No matter how good or bad the condition of the world, or your life, gets, let God redirect your focus to eternity and what He wants you to do right now to prepare.

Verses: 2 Corinthians 5:1 NIV, Luke 16:10 NIV

“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” (2 Corinthians 5:1 NIV)

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” (Luke 16:10 NIV)
