Where Do I Go From Here?

It can be hard when you know that you have a calling on your life, but you’re still waiting for it to be fulfilled. It’s even harder when you don’t feel like you have a purpose. It can be frustrating, worrying, and discouraging. It can affect your self-esteem and make you feel stuck. So, what should you do? You should seek God, ask Him to give you peace while you wait, and have a heart of gratitude and faith that He will fulfill His promise. However, you should also be asking yourself the right questions:

For those who are waiting or preparing for the thing(s) God has promised you, you should ask yourself: How are you spending your time? What gifts or talents do you have that you can use to bless people while you are waiting? (This can be as simple as a smile or as involved as using your artistry for a cause). Remember that as you wait, you can sharpen your skills and gifts for future goals, but, of course, under God’s direction, meaning ask God what He would like you to do to bless others or sharpen your skills while you wait for Him to fulfill His promise. He will guide you, and grow you, in these smaller steps as you journey toward the promised destination.

For those who have no idea what they were meant to do, you should ask yourself: Where have you looked for fulfillment and purpose outside of God, blocking you from being still enough to hear His voice and sense His direction? When you see God as everything you need, as well as a loving Father and Friend, it’s easy to tell Him what you’re confused and anxious about, just as if you were telling Him anything else. It’s when you understand His heart and His loving nature that you are comfortable enough to talk to Him like you would with any of your friends and family, because you will know that you can trust Him. It’s not worth rejecting or avoiding intimacy with God to settle for things or people that temporarily make you feel better but later fill you with shame and regret. It’s only by drawing closer to God with a sincere and trusting heart that He will guide you to your purpose and give you lasting fulfillment.

Remember, God has important work for you to do. He didn’t just give you gifts and talents for you to enjoy them by yourself. He gave them to you so you can also bless others and help them draw closer to Him. If you don’t know what to do next, just let Him show you. Spend time with Him daily – setting aside private time to read His word and talk to Him, and incorporating Him in your daily activities – and He will direct you.
